I started reading this book when I found it open in my mom's room. I opened it, expecting something really boing but found it was quite interesting. It's the memoir of a boy living in England, as gypsy. He describes the tortures of his life. His abusive father, who pushes street fighting on him since birth. His large family gathering, where the men hold disgusting cock fights. Today I want to delve deep into the writing, however.
The author, Mikey Walsh was pretty much illiterate until he decided I break out of the gypsy community, so you can't be SO harsh on the writing. However, just for enjoyable purposes, I'll just say, the writing isn't very good. The sentences are choppy, and paragraphs sprout new topics in very elementary ways. Nothing too horrible, but it makes reading the book a little more frustrating. It's not that he's breaking every rule in the book, but he is making reading it less exciting. He seems to go on, and on, and on!
My questions today is, does traumatic events excuse bad writing? On one hand, it isn't TERRIBLE writing, so there's no need in a ghost writer. Buuuuut… it's isn't good writing. I think Mikey should've had a better editor to review his work, that's all. some people overlook bad writing because of the plot. I think this is a really bad practice because it might make the reader a worse writer.
Also, please watch the KONY 2012 video!! Very important stuff.
