Romeo and Juliet (Baz Thurman): True Perfection

I am one of the FEW people in class 811 who watching enjoyed watching Baz Thurman's Romeo and Juliet, and i think the only one who connected to it. I, honestly, thought it was one of the best movies I have ever seen. I thought it was a perfect style (very Moulin Rouge-y [which I loved] and a bit Wes Anderson-y). I thought the story was (obviously!) perfect. I mean, come on, it's Romeo and Juliet. And lastly, I thought the casting was just pure genius. Beautiful Leonardo DiCaprio and adorable Claire Danes. I honestly cannot seem to grasp how someone could speak mockingly toward a movie that makes you laugh ad cry at the same time! Oh well, to each his own.
One of the reasons Romeo and Juliet was perfect, was because Baz Thurman reinvented it into his own true masterpiece. The bright colors, modern characters, and quirky twists helped me connect to the story. The fact that Mercucio was a cross dresser in is spare time, just portrayed the fun-loving, joyous persona of what I would soon discover Mercucio was. I was really annoyed when some people form our class yelled obnoxious things during parts of it, because they wouldn't look past Mercucio's heels, and see his true character. How are you going to understand actual Hsakespeare if you have to scream "GAYYY!!!", everytime a crucial character walks on?
This movie introduced to Romeo and Juliet, and more importantly, the works of Shakespeare. I really think it was a great stepping stone. I've seen the plays before (Merchant of Venice, As You Like It, Midsummer's Night Dream) but this helped me think much more critically of the works. I thought like a reader, not an audience. Romeo and Juliet is truley wonderful. Some people overlook it because it's so "mainstream". But, come on. Eveyrhting about it is brilliant. How could you not want to fall in fateful love at fourteen, and never fall out of it? There love is preserved because both of them commit. Perfection.
After seeing Baz Thurman's Romeo and Juliet, it kickstarted me into a stage that, I'm ecstatic, I prbably will never climb out of. My love for Shakepeare. Since I was already a fan of Baz Thurman's movie, I absolutely loved the movie. I was really annoyed that other people didn't, and then proceeded to critique the movie (very immaturely) WHILE I WAS WATCHING! I mean, whatever, they're the ones missing out. Not me.
